Okay, so i been playing hearts of iron for a while now, it has been working fine until a couple days ago. I was playing as Germany and i recently conquered russia and was managing my troops. I had to leave so i got off and left. So i came back a couple hours later and decided to extend the end date of my game. So i extended the game end date and i decided to continue playing. I started the game again and started the time, a couple hours(inside the game) and it crashes. I decided that i had too many units on the map.

So i disbaned some. Then i started the time again and it crashed again. I then tried starting playing as Japan and the second i started the time the game crashes again!

Any ideas of how to fix this? I have reinstalled the game about 5 times and it continues to crash. Hey, I suspect this has something to do with the LUA/events chains.
The AI relies quite heavily on information specified in the LUA files, this tells it what to build, where to deploy its troops, and what its general moves should be. For example it is these files which make Japan attack the Philippines and Germany attack France through the lowlands (Most of the time).
Obviously the LUA chains aren't fully inflexible, they can account for a large number of ahistorical situations which will alternately make the AI act differently in certain sitautions, but obviously though the LUA chains can't go on indefinetely. HoI is 'supposed' to be played until 1948, and the developers coded for this accordingly, with AI production runs and strategy becoming far more inconsistent and random after they run out. The AI does have difficulty dealing with the situation though, as do other elements of the game, particularly those dependent on date so elections and event chains. (I have noticed in the past it becomes far more likely for a party without any actual ministers, because they aren't supposed to win elections, to win post 1948). There is nothing wrong with extending the timeline, I have done so numerous times, but ultimately you do have to accept that you can no longer ensure that the game engine will work flawlessly and reliably after 1948. You have essentially modded the game, so it is likely that there won't be a 'fix' for the problem you are encountering. This also sounds a little bit like the random CTD problem that was addressed in the recent TFH hotfix.
I don't know how much the game crashed after you edited the end date. You can download and install that from here: Extract directly over your TFH.exe I may be able to provide other support if you provide a little more information;).
